| ˀpyn, ˀpyˀ
(ˀappīn, ˀappayyā)
| In the literary Aramaic tradition spelled with nasalization: אנפין; CPA also ܐܒܝܢ ; Gal also אופין ; in JBA (and spoken Mandaic!) the form may be re-formed as a singular, thus ˀappā. Syr. pl. ܐܲܦܿܲܝ̈ܵܐ , a feminine plural, but also treated as a singular. in Syr., mostly but not always as a feminine, but generally masc. pl. elsewhere. |
| ˁyn, ˁynˀ
(ˁayn/ˁēn, ˁaynā)
| The plural varies: in the physical senses it takes the masculine (originally dual!) ending ˁaynē,but in the metaphorical senses the fem. ending (e.g. ˁaynān, ˁaynāṯā) is usual. The W.Syr. absolute is ˁīn. For a possible Syriac form ܥܲܢܵܐ see BarB 1444:18. |
