byn, byny (bēn, baynay, bēnē) prep. between, among
The distribution of the forms in the Standard literary Aramaic tradition is as follows: The independent form is bēn, but bēnē before plural pronominal suffixes. In PTA, LJLA, and the Babylonian dialects the back-formation ביני becomes the normal independent form. In Syriac onlyܒܲܝܢܲܝ , and this form (as opposed to byt, bynt) is used in our database in older texts almost always only when used in the byny ... l_ construction. In Sam. ביני is relatively rare as an independent form.
