xyl noun sg. abs. or construct
ḥyl, ḥylˀ (ḥayl/ḥēl, ḥaylā) n.m.(f.) army; force
const: ḥēl; pl: normally masc., but often ḥaylāwān when used as an abstract idea or in reference to armies in general or in particular the hosts of Heaven. (Jacob of Sarugh, for example, regularly distinguishes betweeen ܚܝ̈ܠܐ for "mighty deeds" or individual fighters and ܚܝ̈ܠܘܬܐ for "armies.")

Note, then that Payne-Smith and Levy created a separate, feminine lemma accordingly, where LS2 has just one. See the citations for an ex. of the fem. form of the plural used with masculine concord.
